Star Wars PC Games 2009

Star Wars has provided people with great imagination and science fiction imagery since 1977 when the world experienced Star Wars for the first time. Star Wars became pop cultural phenomena and has since spawned movies, comics, toys and video games. Games on a variety of game systems as well as the Personal Computer (PC) have entertained and challenged people all over the world with the story lines and imagery that has fascinated and intrigued masses for over 30 years. The highly anticipated Star Wars PC game released in 2009, Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Republic Heroes fulfilled some and left others longing according to reviews.

The October 2009 released PC Star Wars game is an action-adventure game with a tie-in to the Clone Wars television series. The player is taken on an adventure to stop the assassin’s destructive plot. Players can choose to play as Jedi Knights such as Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Mace Windu among others, and Clone Troopers such as Captain Rex, Commander Cody and Commander Bly in addition to other characters in over 40 missions. One promising feature of the game is a drop-in drop-out co-op mode.

The reviews of Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Republic Heroes are varied with some positive aspects of the game and some aspects that make playing enjoyment difficult. Among the more positive parts of the game is the game setting. The game takes place in familiar locals to the television series like the massive Republic battleships and the Twi’lek home world of Ryloth. A wide variety of characters show up in the game adding to the familiarity and enjoyment for fans of the series. The disappointments of the game include the gaming platform that can best be described as clunky. Shooting controls are inaccurate, pinpoint blasting is nearly impossible and there is‘looseness’ in the character’s maneuverability. Repetition also seems to be a bit of an annoyance with players with many aspects of the game repeating rather than changing the game up to keep your attention.

Overall the newest Star Wars PC game seems to be targeted to a younger gamer, not unlike other games; however, with this game it is the younger gamer who will stick with it. The more experienced gamer will likely be disappointed by the confusing level design, control problems, and strange camera angles.
